Synopsis

After the assassination of Tiberius (Peter O’Toole), young Caligula (Malcolm McDowell) seizes the throne and plunges the Roman Empire into a spiral of violence, lust, and madness.
Released in 1980, Caligula became infamous for its troubled production and the scandal it provoked: artistic disputes and delays resulted in a hybrid film, both decadent and controversial. More than forty years later, Thomas Negovan presents The Ultimate Cut: a completely re-edited version that does not use a single shot from the original, restoring power to the performances and offering a fresh perspective on the emperor’s descent into madness.
