LUCCA FILM FESTIVAL FOR FUTURE 2026: SOFIDEL RENEWS ITS SUPPORT FOR THE INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM COMPETITION ON SUSTAINABILITY

Submissions are now open for the fourth edition of the competition dedicated to young filmmakers addressing environmental and social sustainability. Works can be submitted until July 15th.

Sofidel, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of paper for hygienic and domestic use, is partnering with the Lucca Film Festival for the fourth consecutive year as a sponsor of the event—scheduled to take place from September 26th to October 4th. Specifically, Sofidel is backing Lucca Film Festival for Future, the international competitive section dedicated to short films that explore the major themes of environmental sustainability and social responsibility.

The competition is open to directors and filmmakers under 35 from all over the world. Works can be submitted for selection by July 15th via the Filmfreeway and Festhome platforms, or by sending the link directly to the following address: future@luccafilmfestival.it

Short films must have a maximum duration of 29 minutes, be produced no earlier than 2024, and be submitted as an Italian premiere. The works must address at least one of the following thematic areas: environmental protection, issues of social relevance, and the role of new generations. Special attention will also be given to films reflecting on the theme: “The Value of History to Build the Future”.

The support for the fourth edition of Lucca Film Festival for Future is part of the calendar of activities promoted by Sofidel to celebrate its first 60 years of history and to reaffirm its bond with local communities.

Following the 243 submissions received from all over the world in the 2025 edition, 10 finalist short films will be selected again this year by an international jury. This jury is composed of representatives from the festivals belonging to the “Film For Our Future” network, in collaboration with EURASF (European Network of Science Communicators, Filmmakers, Film Producers and Festival Organizers).

The winning short film will receive a €1,000 prize, awarded by a jury of Italian cinema professionals during the Festival’s closing ceremony.
