“Cercando Il Paradiso Perduto [Seeking The Lost Paradise]” (2025), ultimo lavoro di Federico Romani, si pone di fronte ad una delle più grandi domande dell’umanità: “cosa rimane di noi dopo la nostra morte?” Strutturato come un viaggio di pensiero dell’autore sul tema, viene argomentato dall’opera e dalla
filosofia dell’artista Paolo Pelosini, che dopo aver vissuto quarantasette anni a New York, decise di tornare nel suo paese natale Massarosa, nel nord della Toscana, per trasformare il suo minuscolo appartamento nel suo Mausoleo così che un giorno le sue ceneri possano giacere assieme alle sue opere.
Il documentario, sollevando interrogativi come “sono le cose che creiamo durante la nostra vita il segno della nostra esistenza?” e “l’artista può sfuggire alla morte attraverso gli oggetti dell’arte?” tocca una vasta gamma di temi e idee, indagando il ruolo della tomba nella società.
Nella sua seconda metà il “viaggio” del documentario diventa effettivo: la troupe si incammina per un percorso antico migliaia di anni ripercorrendo la strada mitologica del fiume Acheronte, che nell’antica Grecia si pensava fosse il luogo dove le anime dei defunti potessero trovassero nuova dimora, portando a schermo la de-mitizzazione dell’area e facendo emergere la domanda: “qual è il rapporto della tomba con il tempo?”
Seeking The Lost Paradise (2025), Federico Romani’s latest work, tackles one of humanity’s greatest questions: “What remains of us after we die?” Structured as the author’s journey of thought on the subject, it is argued by the work and philosophy of artist Paolo Pelosini, who, after living in New York for forty-seven years, decided to return to his hometown of Massarosa, in northern Tuscany, to transform his tiny apartment into his mausoleum so that one day his ashes could rest alongside his works. By raising questions such as “are the things we create during our lives the sign of our existence?” and “can the artist escape death through objects of art?”, the documentary touches on a wide range of subjects.

In its second half, the documentary’s “journey” becomes real: the crew sets off on a thousand-year-old path, retracing the mythological route of the river Acheron, which in ancient Greece was thought to be the place where the souls of the dead could find a new home, bringing the demythologization of the area to the screen and raising the question: “What is the relationship between the tomb and time? ”
